UnBaptism Giclee Print

$55.00

9”x13” giclee print on premium white textured paper. This is a thick (21-mil) heavy weight (310g) paper with the luxurious style of traditional artists' papers. It has a natural-white, matte finish with a textured watercolor feel.

Mimicking old world religious paintings I wanted to show a fantastical view of a Satanic unbaptism ritual. While I have partaken in this ritual this is not depicting anything I actually witnessed but for the sake of art it is exaggerated. The woman is nobody in particular other than being a woman who are commonly viewed in most Christian faiths as under men or the cause of the fall of man. She commits a blasphemous act of burning her bible which is a cause of pain for her because of what the bible represents in her past. I symbolically made black iris flowers grow from her feet to symbolize her rebellion much like the myth of the child Buddha growing lotus flowers from his footsteps. Her hands were bond but as part of her unbaptism they are cut loose by a Satanic minister to symbolize her freedom from master worship. Her tears are not tears of pain but tears of emotional relief from the pain of her religious upbringing. The serpent like the appearance of the dove in Christian art is a messenger of truth and sheds a tear of empathy onto her.Her community stands around her with compassion ready to adorn her in her cloak.

Print comes signed in a clear plastic sleeve with removable foam core backing.
